
John A. Hoogstra, age 88, of Holland, passed away on Friday, September 17, 2021, at his home with family by his side.
John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He worked for many years at Holland Public Schools as a school psychologist and also worked as a clinical psychologist in private practice. He was a well-known organist in the community, playing for many churches and choirs for 52 years. He served in the US Army, enjoyed working at Windmill Island in his retirement, and had a love and fascination for trains and pipe organs.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Jacob & Ann (Smith) Hoogstra; father and mother-in-law, Theodore & Christine Hoeksema; and his sister-in-law, Fannie Hoeksema.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hoogstra; son, Eric (Ranae) Hoogstra; grandchildren: Ryan (Emily) Hoogstra, Lindsey Hoogstra; brother, Calvin Hoogstra; siblings-in-law: Paul Hoeksema, Verna (Frank) Kokmeyer; and one great grandchild on the way.
A private family graveside service will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Pilgrim Home Cemetery. A public visitation will be held Monday, the night prior, from 7:00 – 8:00 pm at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland.
