CFHZ announces $100M asset milestone, celebrates the strength of nonprofit community. The Community Foundation of the Holland/Zeeland Area celebrated the strength of the nonprofit community during its annual Celebration of Philanthropy event — and a big milestone.
Grant helps Civil War muster expand, attract new talent. The Civil War has lessons for modern America. Re-enactors will bring those lessons to life at the Van Raalte Farm this weekend, thanks, in part, to a Hope College-Andrew P. Mellon Foundation grant.
Latino-centric leadership program LEADeres expanding to the Lakeshore. The Latino-centric leadership program LEADeres is expanding to the Lakeshore. It is designed to help Latinx professionals develop the skills, resources, and confidence needed to become leaders at work and in the community.
GRCC earns $1.2M grant to help adult learners access higher education. A five-year, $1.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education will support GRCC’s efforts to help adult learners enter or return to higher education.
Holland Concert Jazz Orchestra returns with live concerts. The professional jazz band based on the West Michigan Lakeshore is returning with four major concerts planned for 2021-22. The first is Sept. 26, 2021, at the Park Theatre in Holland.
Entrepreneur’s ArtPrize entry merges AI, ballet, and chalk art. Holland entrepreneur and artificial intelligence (AI) specialist Charles Elwood is merging technology and art with his 2021 ArtPrize entry, titled “The ABBy Project.”
Honor Rewards program provides veterans with discounts on goods and services. More than 350 Lakeshore area businesses participate in the Honor Rewards program, which offers discounts on goods and services to U.S. military veterans. Ottawa County is hoping to spread the word about the program and reach more veterans.

Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 18-19″ Van Raalte Farm Civil War Muster, Van Raalte Farm, 1076 E. 16th St., Holland. Relive the first Battle of Bull Run at Holland’s Civil War Muster and Heritage Days. This annual event is set at historic Van Raalte Farm, the former home of Ben Van Raalte, a Civil War veteran. You’ll “see” President Abraham Lincoln, and Harriet Tubman and watch reenactors perform military drills and battle reenactments. You can even attend a Civil War-era church service. Sept. 19-25: Grand Haven Hispanic Heritage Fiesta. Join in the fun at this weeklong heritage celebration of Latin American cultures. The Fiesta kicks off Sept. 19 with a colorful Parade of Flags in Grand Haven’s Central Park and continues throughout the week with food, entertainment, and Latino festivities.
