MEN’S SOCCER
The Hope College men’s soccer team picked up its first two wins of the season last weekend with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against unbeaten Carthage College (Wisconsin) and a 2-0 victory against undefeated Aurora University (Illinois).
Senior Griffin Bruso scored against Aurora and helped the Flying Dutchmen raise their record to 2-1-1.
Hope’s next game is Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 4:30 p.m. against the Washington University in St. Louis (Missouri) at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
WOMEN’S GOLF
The Hope College women’s golf team shot a 36-hole, two-day total of 638 (315-323) to win the Olivet College Kyle Campbell Invitational last weekend. The Flying Dutch finished 22 strokes ahead of runner-up Saint Mary’s College. Junior Grace VanDellen placed fourth (78-81-157).
Hope golfs on Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 1 p.m. at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Albion.
VOLLEYBALL
The Hope College volleyball team went 2-1 at the MIAA’s “Battle at the Point” Crossover with the North Coast Athletic Conference last weekend in Sandusky, Ohio. The Flying Dutch, who are now 5-1, defeated Denison University (Ohio) and Ohio Wesleyan University in three sets and lost to Wittenberg University (Ohio) in five sets. Senior Grace Pettinger and Hope host a two-day tournament on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 17-18, at DeVos Fieldhouse.
FOOTBALL
The Hope College football team suffered its first loss of the season with a 28-21 defeat at Coe College (Iowa) on Saturday. Senior Lucas Leak caught his third touchdown of the season for the Flying Dutchmen with a 6-yard score. Junior Ian Rampersad topped Hope offensively with 97 receiving yards; including a 5-yard touchdown catch. The Flying Dutchmen (1-1) host Rose-Hulman Institute (Indiana) on Saturday, Sept. 18, at 2 p.m. at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium.
MEN’S GOLF
The Hope College men’s golf team tied for seventh place at the 19-team Carthage College Fall Invitational last weekend in West Dundee, Illinois. The Flying Dutchmen finished with a 36-hole, two-day total of 598 (298-300). Junior Seth Almquist led Hope individually by tying for 18th place after carding a total of 147 (72-72). Hope’s next event is the 36-hole, two-day Irish Hills Invitational hosted by Adrian College on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 17-18, at Lenawee Country Club.

The Hope College women’s soccer team could not crack the Knox College (Illinois) defense and lost, 1-0, on the road on Saturday. The Flying Dutch fell to 3-1 on the season. Hope’s next game is Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. against Elmhurst University (Illinois) at Van Andel Soccer Stadium.
