TALLMADGE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 38-year-old Marne man lost his life after crashing his motorcycle into a Ottawa County Road Commission truck on Wednesday (Sept. 8, 2021) morning.
The Kent County Medical Examiner’s Office notified the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department that Arnell Banks succumbed to his injuries after arriving at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids after the incident. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, deputies and first responders were dispatched to eastbound I-96 between the 24 and 25 mile markers just before 12 Noon.
“Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that a 38-year-old Marne resident was operating a 1996 Honda motorcycle eastbound on I-96 when he ran into an Ottawa County Road Commission truck that was stopped on the roadway performing road maintenance,” Dill said in a department statement. “Several road commission trucks were performing maintenance along the left shoulder of the roadway, and several warning signs were posted preceding the road work area. The motorcycle rider struck a road commission truck equipped with a crash attenuator and a yellow flashing arrow sign.”
The truck driver was not injured in the collision, which remains under investigation.
