Rev. David Michael Doyle, age 86, exchanged his temporary home for his eternal home in heaven, on September 5, 2021.
David was the youngest son of Raymond and Dorothy (Wolters) Doyle, a little brother, a steady brother-in-law, and a faithful uncle.
David lived a life filled with a myriad of rich experiences. He joined the Army after high school where he met Merle Vredeveld who introduced him to his sister Lyla. David and Lyla married soon after and just celebrated their 65th Anniversary. David was a perpetual student. He graduated from Calvin College and Seminary and was just shy of his Doctorate from Oral Roberts University. As a pastor and teacher, he and Lyla served multiple congregations throughout the United States and Mexico. After “retirement” they found it hard to leave ministry so they packed up (twice) and moved to South Dakota, where they found great joy and even greater friends at Volga CRC.
He was a well-studied teacher to hundreds, a passionate preacher to thousands, and a loyal friend to many. He was loved by many in so many different ways. David will be missed by his family and friends but he has left a lasting legacy.
Dave was preceded in death by his brothers, Erwin and Ellen Doyle and Donald Doyle.
He was the beloved husband of his wife Lyla (Vredeveld) of 65 years, and the dedicated father of his 5 children Diane (Mark) Meyerholtz, Rebecca Doyle, Carolyn Doyle, Marcia (Mikel) Millard, and Mark Doyle (Eric Thompson).
He was the trusted grandfather of his 13 grandchildren Lenny (LeeAnna) Guzman, Trisha (Phillip) Bassler , Nathaniel (Valerie) Guzman, Luke (Tiffany) Langdon, Justin (Kourtney) Langdon, Katie (Travis) Crotser, Leah (David) Cooke, Lyndsay Nelson (Paul Michael Ballard), Jonathon Nelson, Rylee Doyle (Oladimeji Adeniran), Austin Doyle, Madisen Doyle, and Gavin Doyle. And the beloved great grandfather to his 16 great-grandchildren Brett, Gillian, Rhyan, Kole, Noah, Brekyn, Vivian, Zachary, Connor, Emma, Kennedy, Brady, Kelsie, Keaton, Jackson & Lyla.
He was a loyal friend to his in-laws, Ethel Doyle, Alma and Paul De Vries, Norm and Bonnie Vredeveld, Doris Nienhuis, and a respected uncle to several nephews and nieces.
He continued to have a special spot in the hearts of Ivan Guzman, Delbridge Langdon Jr, Harry Nelson Jr, and Velvet Koning.
Funeral services will be at 12 noon Saturday (September 11) at the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel, 199 West 32nd Street, with Pastor Austin Kreutz officiating. Burial will be in Graafschap Cemetery. Visitation is 1-3 and 6-8 pm Friday (September 10) also at the chapel.
Memorials may be made to Life Matters Worldwide.
