HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Unlike many hospitals that are mandating COVID-19 vaccines for employees, Holland Hospital is not.
Hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Schmitt released the hospital’s official statement:
“Holland Hospital does not have an employee COVID-19 vaccine mandate in place at this time. We encourage everyone to follow guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and get the vaccine, if you are able. Evidence shows the COVID-19 vaccine is safe and effective. It is our greatest tool in slowing the spread of COVID-19 and reducing hospitalization and death rates.”
That could change. The phrase “at this time” suggests hospital officials have the option to require vaccines at some point in the future.
Currently, COVID-19 infection rates are considered high. Spectrum Health officials have re-started some visitor restrictions, as the number of patients admitted for treatment of severe COVID-19 symptoms went from 127 on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021, to 162 on Wednesday.
Across the state, employees of Henry Ford Health System are suing over their employer’s mandate that employees get vaccinated for COVID-19.
