GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 31-year-old Hudsonville woman has succumbed to injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash last Thursday evening (Sept. 2, 2021) south of Jenison.
On Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 7, 2021), Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Mike VanDenBosch said, in a department statement, “The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Kent County Medical Examiners office regarding Amanda Tikkanen, who was a front seat passenger in a 2015 Nissan Sentra driven by a 15-year-old female, also from Hudsonville. Ms. Tikkanen has passed away from her injuries in this traffic crash.”
Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Hallmeyer was among deputies and first responders who were dispatched just before 5:30 PM n a report of a vehicle-semi collision. “Our investigation on scene determined that the sedan had been westbound on 44th Street and stopped at the traffic light at 14th Avenue” Hallmeyer said in a department report made at the time of the crash. “She turned left onto 14th Avenue, in front of an eastbound semi pulling an empty flatbed trailer. The driver of the semi, a 57-year-old man from Grand Rapids, was unable to avoid a collision.”
While the truck driver was unhurt, the two women were taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, with the driver initially listed serious condition. No other names were disclosed, and VanDenBosch’s update didn’t update the medical situation involving the driver..
The crash remains under investigation.
