LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – For the second time in as many days, a visitor to the Lakeshore has lost his life in the waters of Lake Michigan.
According to Allegan County Sheriff’s Sergeant Morgan Sullivan, deputies and first responders were dispatched to Saugatuck Dunes State Park around 2:30 PM on Sunday (Sept. 5, 2021) on a report of a man being pulled from the waters there. “According to the victim’s friends, the 30-year-old man, who is believed to be from the Chicago area, had been in the water for approximately 15-30 minutes by himself,” Sullivan said in a department statement. “They went to check on him, and with the help of some nearby beach goers, including several off-duty medical professionals, they were able to pull the victim from the water and immediately began resuscitation efforts, as he was not breathing. Despite live-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene from an apparent drowning.”
On Tuesday, the Sheriff’s office disclosed the name of the man as Ryan Harms. The incident remains under invesgtigation.
On Saturday, a 67-year-old man from Mason, near Lansing, drowned in the waters of Lake Michigan just south of the Holland pier.
