HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The Holland restaurant Marlena’s Bistro and Pizzeria may reopen later this month.
The announcement, posted Sept. 2, 2021, on the restaurant’s Facebook page, says “We will be reopening the restaurant September 21. Hope to see you then. We could not come to an agreement with AG office, so my attorney (Robert Baker) filed a motion with the court for a decision to be made. The judge decided that since I was issued a license there was no basis to keep me from opening. There is still a legal battle ahead, as we have filed an appeal with the Michigan Court of Appeals. This is far from being over!”
Restaurant owner Marlena Pavlos-Hackney was fined thousands of dollars and briefly jailed earlier this year after refusing to follow county and state health guidelines for limiting the spread of COVID-19, a virus that has killed more than 20-thousand Michigan residents since the pandemic hit Michigan. At least one case of the virus was linked to her restaurant.
A GoFundMe effort to support her and her court fight has raised more than $331,000 as of Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021.
