ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two people from Holland were injured in a single-vehicle crash east of Zeeland that ended an apparent attempt to flee police during the overnight hours on Monday (Sept. 6, 2021).
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Nicholas Knott, Holland Department of Public Safety police officers were called to a “domestic situation” in the area of Lincoln Avenue and East 48th Street around 2 AM when the vehicle that the two were in sped off to the east. Sheriff’s deputies became involved as the vehicle left the city limits.
“The pursuit came to an end on 84th Avenue near Frontage Street when the suspect vehicle lost control on a dirt road and crash,” Knott said in an department statement.
The 25-year-old man driving the vehicle and his 19-year-old female passenger were taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. No names were disclosed.
“The driver of the vehicle is facing multiple charges, and alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash,” Knott added.
The Holland Department of Public Safety will continue its investigation of the incident.
