HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s detectives are investigating a car-semi-tractor-trailer crash which sent a 15-year-old girl and a 31-year-old woman, both from Hudsonville, to Spectrum Health Butterworth.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Hallmeyer says the crash happened just before 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021, when the 15-year-old, driving a blue Nissan sedan, stopped at the traffic light at 44th Avenue. She turned west onto 14th Avenue driving in front of the eastbound semi, pulling an empty flatbed trailer. The 57-year-old Grand Rapids man driving the semi was unable to avoid the crash, Hallmeyer said.
The driver of the semi was uninjured. The teen went by ambulance to Spectrum Butterworth with serious injuries. The 31-year-old passenger in her car was airlifted to Spectrum Butterworth with critical injuries. The semi driver was not physically hurt in the crash.
Forty-fourth street remained in both directions for several hours for the safety of emergency responders and investigators on the scene.
