HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Hope College’s Haworth Hotel’s grand reopening is set for 4 to 6 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021.
The hotel reopened in June after a $7.5 million remodeling project, which included a gift from Haworth Inc., according to Hope officials.
The three-story Haworth Hotel, 225 College Ave., features 10,000 square feet of meeting space and 48 guest rooms, a rebuilt the lobby and new full-service Biggby Coffee shop which is open to the public.
The lobby redesign features more informal seating, a new pre-function area outside the main ballroom and a new spiral staircase to the second floor with access to a new meeting room. Overnight guests will find a new exercise room overlooking the lobby.
The 48 guest rooms have been completely refurbished and refurnished, and include three ADA-accessible rooms and a private executive suite.
Milan, Italy-based architect Patricia Urquiola, an award-winning designer, led the renovation, which features Haworth products. Additional design came from GMB Architecture + Engineering of Holland. The Grand Rapids-based Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. did general contracting.
The building continues to serve as a campus conference center while serving the Holland community and area organizations nationwide.
The hotel is operated for Hope. The staff is a mix of college employees and Creative Dining Services, employees, including an onsite executive chef. CDS provides food service for the rest of campus.
The hotel opened in January 1997, named after Haworth in honor of donations to the college’s endowment. The renovation started in November 2019, but the planned finish in early 2020 got delayed by pandemic-related shutdowns.
