HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Late Tuesday, the last of the shelter-in-place orders were lifted around Vertellus Chemical, 215 N. Centennial St. in Zeeland.
Ottawa County’s emergency management director, Lou Hunt, said powdered plastic had escaped the factory at about 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2021. No injuries have been reported.
He said the shelter-in-place orders came “out of an abundance of caution.” It’s unclear what lead to the powder getting out of the factory.
No school buildings were affected, though some bus routes changed for the afternoon.
Hunt expressed thanks to “everyone for their patience as we continue to work with public safety agencies.”
Zeeland firefighters; Ottawa County Hazmat team members; and other public safety agencies are on site.
