HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A dirt-bike crash sent a 48-year-old Coopersville man to Spectrum Health Butterworth in serious condition, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Hallmeyer.
The crash happened just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2021, when the man failed to stop for the sign on northbound Eighth Avenue at Wilson Street. The dirt bike hit a street sign and continued into a cornfield, where it crashed.
The Coopersville man had been wearing a helmet but the dirt bike “was not street legal or equipped with proper safety equipment such as a headlight or tail light,” Hallmeyer wrote.
The man went by Rockford ambulance to Spectrum Health Butterworth hospital. Police ticketed him for several violations, according to Hallmeyer.
Alcohol “does not appear to be a factor in this crash,” Hallmeyer wrote. The crash which remains under investigation.
