HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – As a new school year approaches, a common “help wanted” sign among public and private districts across Michigan has been for school bus drivers.
Although she has only been on the job for just under a month, the new superintendent of Holland Public Schools, Shanie Keelean, admits that driving a school bus “is not one job that I would want to take on.
“One of the things that we started talking about is how to train and support our bus drivers,” she said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” during a Tuesday (July 20, 2021) appearance, “so they know how to deal with the students on their route. They’re the first to see the student in the morning, and then the last one to see them at the end of the day, so it’s really vital that they build relationships as well.”
Starting salary for bus drivers with Holland Public Schools is $17.87 to $20.80 hourly, based on the agreement between the Board and the Holland Education Support Personnel Association. A link to applying is here.
