Ann Jaquith Palmer was born on December 3, 1936, to Katherine Jean (Miller) and John Carter Palmer.
She grew up in Detroit in her beloved home on Balmoral Drive in Palmer Woods. She attended Kingswood at Cranbrook during middle school and high school. After marrying James Prescott, they moved to Jackson, Michigan. They had 3 children, Timothy (TJ), Patrick, and Lori. After their divorce, she met and married Bill Skiles of Muskegon, and they had two sons, John and Robert. The family of 7 moved to Alexandria, Virginia while Bill served in the Eisenhower and Kennedy White House with the Secret Service. Her children remember attending Christmas and Easter parties with her at the White House during those years.
Ann moved into her home on Hope Avenue in Holland Michigan with her 5 children, in 1970 after a second divorce. She lived there until her death on July 13, 2021. She worked for many years at Bohn Aluminum/Hydromatic where she served in leadership roles in her local UAW chapter 1402, including writing and publishing their newsletter, and serving as the president of the retirees of Local 1402 until her death at 84. She loved her visits to Black Lake UAW Conference Center while serving in that capacity.
Her gregarious, positive, and generous personality was beloved by family and friends alike. “Anny” lit up the room wherever she went. Her children and grandchildren have fond memories of yearly trips to Chicago where she bantered back and forth with the sarcastic waiters at Ed Debevics. She made friends wherever she went and left them with smiles and laughter.
She opened her home to friends of her children, who needed a place to stay, the occasional stray cat, and cared lovingly for her son Tim’s dog Diesel, after his death in 2012. She adored her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews always reminding them how precious they were to her, how much she loved them. Anny will be dearly missed and remembered, for her singular spirit, and her deep and unflinching love for family, friends, and her beloved Holland.
She is preceded in death by; her son Timothy Prescott.
She is survived by; her children Patrick Skiles (Dianna), of Pleasant Ridge, Lori Skiles of Holland, John Skiles of Holland, Rob Skiles (Rosalind) of Zeeland, twelve grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
