HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 15-year-old Coopersville boy suffered minor injuries when he was struck in the arm by an Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputy’s police cruiser.
The crash happened on the 5300 block on Leonard Road in Polkton Township just after 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2021, and is being investigated by Michigan State Police, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. J. Douglas.
Douglas indicated the deputy had been driving east on Leonard Road when the passenger side mirror of the patrol vehicle hit the teen’s upper arm. The boy had bee walking east along the road with a 14-year-old, Douglas said. That stretch of Leonard Road does not appear to have sidewalks.
The deputy immediately stopped and provided medical aid to the boy, Douglas indicated in an email to media. The teen then went by Life EMS to Spectrum Health Helan Devos Children’s Hospital, where he was treated and released, according to Douglas.
Sheriff’s authorities asked for Michigan State Police troopers to investigate the crash, and they were at the crash scene as well.
The crash remains under investigation by MSP troopers.
