HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 22-year-old Muskegon woman suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries in an I-96 crash Monday night, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Michael Hallmeyer.
Deputies were dispatched to the scene, on westbound I-96 near the 18 mile marker, just before 10:15 p.m. July 12, 2021. They learned a 24-year-old Grand Rapids woman driving a Dodge Journey had been arguing with the front seat passenger. The crash happened when the passenger grabbed the steering wheel.
Her action sent the SUV into the guardrail on the north side of the road, causing the the vehicle to roll over, police said. The passenger suffered serious, but not life-threatening, injuries and went by ambulance for treatment to Spectrum Health Butterworth in Grand Rapids, according to Hallmeyer.
Crash investigators indicated she may not have been wearing a seatbelt, but neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in this crash, which remains under investigation.
