HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Several emergency responders were called to the report of a person shot in the chest near the Spinners party store and gas station, 12837 Lincoln St. in Robinson Township, just after 6 a.m. Friday, July 9, 2021.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Jacob Sparks indicated a 25-year-old man shot was rushed to an area hospital. The suspect remains outstanding, he said, but is described as a 20-year-old white male with long blonde hair, last seen on foot in the area. He was last seen wearing blue shorts and a black sweatshirt.
Sparks notified the media the suspect was taken into custody without incident after talking to Sheriff’s Office crisis negotiators. The man turned himself in to investigators.
Sparks later told WHTC the victim was shot once in the upper torso and the injury appears to be non-life-threatening. He said the suspect used a semi-automatic handgun during the incident. The suspect is cooperating with police, Sparks said. Police continue investigating whether the shooting was accidental or intentional.
Sparks indicated sheriff’s detectives are working with Ottawa County Prosecutor officials to determine whether or not any criminal charges may apply in this case.
