HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Emergency responders from Allegan County and several communities are on the scene of a search-and-rescue in the Kalamazoo River, after a diver didn’t resurface near the Allegan dam, properly called the Calkins Bridge Dam, in Valley Township.
The diver was working on a Consumers Energy safety inspection project. The following is a statement emailed from Consumers Energy to the media just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday: “A diver working for a contractor performing an underwater inspection at Consumers Energy’s Calkins Bridge Dam in Allegan went missing downstream just before noon today. A dive team from the Allegan County Sheriff Department is searching for the missing man, a diver for Great Lakes Engineering Group. We at Consumers Energy extend our heartfelt thoughts to the diver and his family and are working with local authorities to help in any way. We hope the diver will be found safe very soon.”
The search is being addressed using boats, divers, drones, thermal imaging, and searchers walking through shallower water, doing a grid search, according to police-scanner radio traffic.
