MONTEREY TOWNSHIP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 76-year-old Allegan area man died in a traffic crash Wednesday evening, according to Michigan State Police officials from the Wayland Post.
Troopers are investigating the two-vehicle crash, which happened at 5:45 p.m. June 16, 2021, at the intersection of 134th Avenue and 26th Street in Monterey Township.
Police say the man was driving a silver Chevy pickup truck traveling south on 26th Street, but failed to stop at a stop sign at 134th Avenue. That led to a crash with a black GMC pickup truck, with a 53-year-old Allegan-area woman at the wheel. She had been driving west on 134th Avenue, with the right-of-way.
The man in the pick-up truck had not been wearing a seatbelt — he was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman, who had been wearing a seatbelt, suffered minor physical injuries, according to police, and was treated at an area hospital.
Police indicated that alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be factor, but the investigation remains open.
Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies, Wayland EMS, and Salem and Hopkins firefighters assisted troopers at the scene.
