PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – As West Ottawa Public Schools closes the book on classroom learning for 2020-21, the district is already making plans for Academic 2022.
On Friday (June 11, 2021), West Ottawa Schools announced the hiring of Jessica Rios as the new principal at Pine Creek Elementary School. An instructor in the district since 2010, the WOHS grad, who earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Hope and Calvin, respectively, has worked with at-risk students as well as being a part of the district’s Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports Team.
Before the school year ended, West Ottawa Schools announced the appointment of newly-named high school football head coach Patrick Collins as the district’s Student and Family Engagement Coordinator, and Dr. Pam Schwallier as Director of English Language and Bilingual Programming. Collins had been Director of Student Services and Assistant Principal in Montague before coming to Holland’s North Side, while Schwallier was previously the Regional English Lerner Consultant for the Ottawa Area and Kent intermediate school districts.
Last month, the West Ottawa Board of Education approved the establishment of the West Ottawa Virtual Academy, a new K-12 full-time virtual school option. It’s an offshoot of the virtual learning that most districts conducted during the past school year due to the COVID 19 outbreak, and the academy’s classes will be parallel to those offered by the district in its traditional classroom setting, other than those that require in-person attendance and those who support students with special needs.
West Ottawa Public Schools is slated to resume full-scale classroom learning on September 1st in the first full year of leadership for Superintendent Tim Bearden.
