Parks looking to crowdfunding, state grants to create spaces for all. Partnerships among municipal, business, and nonprofit partners and the public could make new play spaces a reality in Douglas, downtown Holland.
Muskegon welcomes return of popular Lakeshore Art Festival. Hosted by the Muskegon Downtown Development Authority, the Lakeshore Art Festival is returning after a year off due to the pandemic. With nearly 200 exhibitors, children’s activities, food vendors, and an all-new community participation project, LAF is sure to please.
Juneteenth returns with fun and a renewed purpose. Holland’s Juneteenth celebration will be a day of fun, learning, and healing. Alongside the festival fun will also be a COVID-19 clinic and voter registration drive.
Ottawa County receives United Way’s top honor for pandemic response. The Greater Ottawa County United Way presented its biggest honor — the G.W. Haworth Strength of the Community Award — to Ottawa County and its staff for going above and beyond in keeping residents safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Holland automation manufacturer’s expansion ‘bringing work to West Michigan’. Mission Design & Automation is building a 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility near Adams Street and 96th Avenue in Holland, with support from Lakeshore Advantage, West Michigan Works!, and others. It’s also adding more than 100 jobs to support the $5 million expansion.
Lakeshore Advantage introduces Gentex interns to their new home in West Michigan. The new crop of summer interns for Gentex have a lot of fun things on their bucket lists after a Lakeshore Advantage event introduced them to all West Michigan has to offer.
Holland’s first Wi-Fi Lift Zone coming to South Side Boys & Girls Club. Comcast is providing Lift Zones — Wi-Fi hotspots designed to help students get online, participate in distance learning, and do homework — in communities across the country. The first in Holland will be at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Holland’s South Side location. It’s part of the company’s 10-year, $1 billion investment in closing the digital divide that affects many low-income families.
Tai chi as a way of life. Andrew Dell’Olio shares how his love of Asian culture led him to study and teach Asian philosophies for decades, and learn the harmony or balance that comes with practicing the slow-moving meditation of tai chi.

- 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., June 10–12; 13th annual Antique Farm Power Club Tractor and Engine Show at the Muskegon County Fairgrounds, 6621 Heights-Ravenna Road, Fruitport. How about tractor pulls, a Model A swap meet, flea market, food vendors, toy displays, antique farm equipment demonstrations, a “valve cover” car derby, as well as a tractor/truck parade. And if that’s not enough, you can enjoy farm equipment demonstrations and exhibits, watch a blacksmith forge his wares, and learn about threshing, baling, and corn shelling. Pat’s Yellow Barn Studio features Pat Rempel’s watercolors and oils along with Mary Alice Townsend’s fabric art and Doug Hiser’s bird carvings.
