A firefighter from Kalamazoo who was on vacation at Mackinac Island for Memorial Day weekend ended up on the job when a fire broke out Sunday evening.
A Facebook post by the South Kalamazoo County Fire Authority reported that the firefighter, who remains anonymous, didn’t hesitate to lend a hand when the historic Brigadoon Cottage located on Main Street went up in flames. He helped hook up a fire hydrant for an aerial stick that was being used to help get the fire under control.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire, but say it isn’t suspicious. The third floor had extensive damage, but no other buildings were affected. No injuries were reported in the blaze.
