HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A new school chief for Holland Public Schools could be in place by the end of this week.
Tuesday, June 1, 2021, the Holland Board of Education will host a town-hall style meeting with the two superintendent finalists facing each other and fielding questions from a moderator. Michael Pascoe of Portage Public Schools and Shanie Keelean of Waukegan Community Schools in suburban Chicago are vying to replace the current superintendent, Brian Davis, who is retiring at the end of June after 13 years at the leadership post.
“If there ever is a time for someone to transition – to pass the baton, so to speak – now would be that time,” Davis said on WHTC’s “Talk of the Town” during his monthly appearance two weeks ago, “so that individual can come in and build upon that work that already has been done, and to take it to a level I wasn’t able to take it – to do even greater things in Holland. I’m just hoping that the table is set well enough for him or her to do that, and I’m looking forward to the board making that selection.”
The town-hall session begins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2021, after the candidates’ final-round interviews with board members. Details on how the public can observe and participate is at the district’s website.
According to district officials, the board will decide in a special meeting Thursday, June 3, 2021, who the new superintendent will be, with that person taking over the operational reins of the district on July 1.
