ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A motorist was killed in the early morning hours of Saturday (May 22, 2021) south of Allendale.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Hallmeyer, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to the junction of Fillmore Street and 52nd Avenue around 1:45 AM on a report of a single-vehicle crash. “When deputies arrived on the scene, they found a vehicle with extensive damage and the driver pinned inside,” Hallmeyer said in a department statement. “While Allendale Township fire personnel were attempting to extricate the driver, he passed away as a result of his injuries. There were no other occupants.
“Our initial investigation shows that the driver had been westbound on Fillmore Street, approaching 52nd Avenue, when he left the roadway and struck a tree. We are attempting to positively identify the driver and make notification to his family.”
The crash remains under investigation.
