HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The finalists for the last remaining school chief opening along the Lakeshore have been determined.
During a Tuesday (May 18, 2021) evening workshop, Holland Board of Education members went over a number of applications before makings its choices for replacing Dr. Brian Davis, who is retiring in July after 13 years as Superintendent. Over the course of two evenings next week, the following will be interviewed in person by the board at the district’s offices off of West 24th Street:
Monday, May 24th: Grand Rapids Southwest Community School Principal Carlos de la Barrera (5 PM); Dr. Alexander Cintron, Bilingual Education Director for Detroit Public Schools (6 PM); Shelby Superintendent Tim Reeves (7:15 PM); and Dr. Karen Sherwood, Holland Deputy Superintendent (8:15 PM).
Thursday, May 27th: Dr. Michael Pascoe, Portage Assistant Superintendent (4:30 PM); Waukegan (IL) Associate Superintendent Shane Keelean (5:30 PM); and Cedar Springs Superintendent Scott Smith (7 PM).
While the candidates and the board members will meet face to face, public access and viewing of these interviews can only be through an online stream. The district, in its announcement of the finalists, said, “If you would like to make a public comment, you may do so via ZOOM,” with details yet to be disclosed on the district’s website.
According to the district’s website, two of the seven that will go before the board next week will be invited back for a final interview and tour of of the district on June 1st, with a possible decision made on that date. The new superintendent will take over the reins on July 1st.
Other school chief vacancies due to retirements this academic year that were filled include West Ottawa (Tim Bearden replacing Tom Martin), Zeeland (Brandi-Lyn Mendham replacing Cal DeKuiper), Jenison (Brandon Graham replacing Tom TenBrink); and the Ottawa Area Intermediate School District (Kyle Mayer replacing Pete Haines).
