HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for tips from the public after a two-vehicle injury crash involving a building at 48th Avenue and Port Sheldon Street on Thursday, May 13, 2021.
Police say a black Ram 1500 pickup, with a 48-year-old Jenison man at the wheel, was southbound on 48th Avenue, when the truck hit a Westbound Chevrolet Equinox carrying two Jenison residents, a male driver and female passenger, each 66 years old.
The crash sent the truck into a building at the corner of the intersection, damaging a wall and stopping inside the building.
The Jenison woman had to be extricated from the car, and was rushed by ambulance to a hospital where, police said, she is in critical condition. The men also went by ambulance to hospitals, with what police called non-life-threatening injuries.
Both drivers told police they were unsure of what happened, and did not know who had the right of way at the intersection. Witnesses also could not say for sure what the color of the light was for each direction.
Deputies are trying to determine which driver had the green light at the time of the crash, and anyone with any information would be helpful.
Blendon Township firefighters assisted at the scene.
