PARK TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 27-year-old Grand Rapids man is in the Ottawa County Jail, awaiting arraignment on charges stemming from a stolen vehicle chase on Holland’s North Side that ended in a crash on Wednesday (May 12, 2021) morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brad Bennett, deputies were dispatched to the 2100 block of Mariacoba Drive just before 10 AM on a report of a vehicle that had just been stolen. The officers were already in the area when the report came in, so they didn’t have to go far to spot the vehicle in question.
“Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, and the suspect driving the vehicle failed to stop for police,” Barrett said in a department statement. “Deputies pursued the fleeing vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect crashed the vehicle near Douglas Avenue and South Division Avenue. No one was injured as a result of the crash.”
The unnamed suspect is being held on numerous charges, including fleeing and eluding, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs, and possession of methamphetamine. The matter remains under investigation.
