HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The next phase in the life of the James DeYoung Power Plant site began on Friday (May 7, 2021).
The City of Holland formally requested “Statements of Qualification” from developers looking to repurpose the 17-acre site of the former Holland BPW coal-fired electric generating facility off of Pine Avenue along the Lake Macatawa waterfront. The plant, which convered to a natural gas-generating shortly before its decommissioning in 2017, and the city has been holding a series of public meetings seeking input as to what to do with the property since then.
The city is looking at a two-stage process in selecting a developer. Stage one is this statements request that would “prequalify respondents based on their demonstrated ability to complete a development of similar scale and scope and financial capacity.” After determining “qualified respondents,” the city will then ask them for submit vision proposals “to implement a comprehensive redevelopment of the JDY Site.”
The deadline for submitting qualifications is June 25th, with more information here.
