Duane Kossen, age 83 of Zeeland, passed away Tuesday, May 4, 2021, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Duane was born in his home in Zeeland and would live on the same farm for most of his life. He was a longtime member of Ottawa Reformed Church, where he served in a variety of roles, including a Sunday School teacher, Deacon, and Elder. Duane worked for Hart and Cooley for almost 50 years and continued his lifelong farming role in his retirement. A veteran of the United States Army, he served proudly our country for 2 years and for a time in Germany.

Preceding him in death was his brother John Kossen; and his son-in-law John Pastunink.

He is survived by his wife Lois of 58 years; son Kevin Kossen (grandson Kyle Kossen), and daughter Kristi Pastunink (granddaughters Jill (Henry) Murray and Colleen Pastunink; siblings Gordon (Elsie) Kossen, Eunice (Gerald) Wright, Stan Kossen, and Lillian Morren; in-laws, Ronald (Hennie) Diresenga, Ken (Alice) Diresenga, Sherry (Cal) Ensing, Gary (Nancy) Diresenga; and Ruth Driesenga; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, May 10, 2021, at Ottawa Reformed Church, 11390 Stanton St., West Olive, MI. Officiating will be Chaplain Cindy Nyhoff. The burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-2:00 pm Monday, May 10 prior to the service at the church.
