HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A 21-year-old man is in Ottawa County Jail, awaiting arraignment on a series of charges stemming from a fight that started on Century Lane, according to police. No injuries were reported.
Holland Police Capt. Robert Buursma said officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Century Lane “on a report of a subject who had pulled a gun on another subject during an altercation. No shots were fired during the altercation.”
The suspect fled in a vehicle before officers arrived, but police broadcast a vehicle description, and Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies spotted it.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Jacob Sparks said Sheriff’s deputies assisted Holland police, conducting what he called a high-risk traffic stop near 120th Avenue and Lakewood Boulevard.
A man ran from the traffic stop but deputies again found him, seeing he was “armed with a hand gun,” Sparks said in an email to WHTC.
The suspect “eventually complied and was taken into custody without further incident,” Sparks noted, adding, “A handgun was recovered during his arrest. Thankfully, no one was injured during this incident.
“Two videos of the traffic stop circulated on Facebook showing the end of the incident, as police converged on the traffic stop. One shows officers pulling up to the Waverly/120th traffic stop, the other just after the fact. No faces or license plates are visible.
Sheriff’s officials will be seeking charges for assault on a police officer, carrying a concealed weapon and obstructing police, according to Sparks. Buursma indicated Holland Police officials are asking the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s office to add charges, including felonious assault related to the Century Lane incident.
The suspect’s name is withheld, pending arraignment.
