MEN’S LACROSSE
It was a decisive second-quarter streak that propelled the Hope College men’s lacrosse team to another win on Wednesday night, defeating Adrian College 17-5
The Flying Dutchmen outscored their foe, 7-2, during the second quarter and grabbed a 10-4 halftime lead.
The road win was the first game for Hope after two weeks off due to Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association COVID-19 protocols. It was also their first MIAA match, improving their overall record 7-0, and conference record 1-0.
Jack Radzville led the Flying Dutchmen in scoring with five goals and three assists. The junior attacker of Howell (Howell HS) also tied freshman midfielder Sean Cunningham of South Lyon (Detroit Catholic Central) in ground balls with four for the game.
VOLLEYBALL
Charlotte Brecht hardly missed. The 5-11 middle hitter buried a career-high 12 kills with a blistering .668 hitting percentage during the Hope College volleyball team’s 3-0 win victory against Olivet College on Wednesday.
The 16th-ranked Flying Dutch raised their record to 6-0 overall and MIAA play with the 25-7, 25-12, 25-23 Senior Day victory at DeVos Fieldhouse.
Prior to the match, Hope honored two seniors: setter Adair Cutler of Lansing, Michigan (Lansing Christian) and outside hitter Rose Thompson of Coopersville, Michigan (Unity Christian.
In her third start of the season, Brecht surpassed her previous career high of 10 kills with an efficient swing. The sophomore made only one hitting error in 16 attack attempts. Brecht finished one kill behind teammate McKenna Otto.
MEN’S TENNIS
The Hope College men’s tennis team shut out another MIAA opponent on Wednesday, downing Alma College, 9-0, at home.
It marks the third time the Flying Dutchmen have blanked a league rival this spring. Hope is now 4-6 overall and 4-0 in the MIAA.
In singles, the Flying Dutchmen did not drop a set and lost only nine games in the six matches.
At No. 1 singles, sophomore Jacob Burkett of Clarkston, Michigan (Clarkston HS) defeated Alma’s Brandon Ralston, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, sophomore Cameron Coates of Stevensville, Michigan (Laurel Springs HS), pictured, beat Alma’s Caleb Schuring, 6-1, 6-1.
