HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies ticketed a 43-year-old Zeeland Township man for disregarding a traffic signal, causing a five-vehicle crash on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. A 76-year-old Grandville woman went by ambulance to Spectrum Zeeland for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police, called to the scene just before 10:15 a.m., learned the Zeeland Township man had been driving west on Chicago Drive, but went through the traffic light at Cottonwood Drive, hitting a northbound vehicle the Grandville woman was driving. The crash sent her car spinning into a car that had been southbound on Cottonwood Drive, with a 34-year-old Hudsonville man at the wheel. The Zeeland Township man’s car, meanwhile, hit an 81-year-old Jenison woman’s car. She had been driving south of Cottonwood Drive. The Zeeland Township man’s car continued on, hitting another southbound car, this one with a 68-year-old Jenison man at the wheel.
Police closed the intersection for about 45 minutes to investigate the crash and clean up the mess.
