GRAND HAVEN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 57-year-old Fennville woman succumbed to critical injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash south of Grand Haven on Friday, Apr. 9, 2021, morning.
In an update released by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department on Saturday, Apr. 10, 2021, evening, Sergeant Michael Hallmeyer said, “On (Saturday) at 7:35 PM, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office was contact by the Muskegon County Medical Examiner’s Office and informed that the … woman had passed away from the injuries she sustained in the crash.” Hallmeyer did not immediately disclose the identity of the woman.
In the initial report issued the previous day, it was stated that deputies and first responders had been dispatched to the area of US-31 and Hayes Street shortly after 6 a.m. Friday. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Jon Knott, who filed the report, a northbound vehicle that the unnamed woman was driving had stopped at a red light when it was rear-ended by another northbound vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old Covert man. The younger motorist and a 40-year-old passenger from South Haven, whose identities were not disclosed, were treated at the scene for minor injuries, while the Fennville woman was transported to Mercy Health Muskegon.
Knott added that, “All occupants in both vehicles appear to have been wearing seat belts,” as the crash remains under investigation.
