OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Three persons from Holland were hospitalized after a single vehicle crash in West Olive on Friday (Apr. 9, 2021) afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant James Douglas, deputies and first responders were dispatched to Port Sheldon Street east of 128th Avenue just before 4 PM. “Investigation at the scene indicates that a 2002 (Chevrolet) Silverado, being driven westbound by a 74-year-old Holland (man), ran off the roadway and struck a tree,” Douglas said in a department statement. “The reason that the vehicle left the roadway is not known at this time, but neither drugs or alcohol are suspected. The driver and both passengers were pinned in the vehicle before being extricated by Olive Township Fire Rescue.”
A 68-year-old woman, seated in the front seat, was initially taken to Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital before being transported to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids “in critical condition,” according to Douglas. A 40-year-old woman, seated in the back seat, along with the driver, went to Holland Hospital in serious and stable condition, respectively, according to Douglas, who added that the front seat passengers were buckled up, but the back seat passenger was not.
No names were immediately disclosed as the crash remains under investigation.
