Margaret Disselkoen, 97, of Zeeland, passed away on Wednesday, April 7, 2021, on what would have been her 78th wedding anniversary.
Margaret was born in Hull, Iowa, on August 13, 1923, to Henry and Della (Bouma) Krommendyk. Margaret married Simon Disselkoen in 1943, and they raised their family in Zeeland, Michigan. Simon and Margaret were longtime members of Third Christian Reformed Church in Zeeland and later became members of Cornerstone United Reformed Church. Simon preceded Margaret in death in 2016.
Mom loved her family most of all. Most memorable growing up with Mom and Dad were the semi-annual trips to Northwest Iowa to be with her parents, brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews. We packed in the car early and drove throughout the day to spend a week hustling from home to home to see everyone and share our stories. In their retirement, mom and dad traveled extensively mostly to do some useful work to help others. These travels took them to the farthest corners of North American and beyond to Africa, Central America, and Europe.
She is survived by her children: Kenneth and Julie Disselkoen, Delores and Perry De Kryger, Carol Disselkoen, Keith and Georgie Disselkoen, Jan Van Liere, Steve and Lisa Hilton, Mike, and Peg Hilton; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; brother Pat and Carol Krommendyk, in-laws: Lorraine Krommendyk, Margaret Krommendyk, Don Disselkoen, Ruth Terpstra, and many extended family members.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, April 12, 2021, at Cornerstone United Reformed Church, 6442 36th Ave., Hudsonville MI 49426. The funeral service can be watched Livestream at https://www.cornerstoneurc.com. Visitation will be 2-5 pm, Sunday at the Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street. Interment will be in Zeeland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland or Right to Life of Michigan.
