HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland police had to close the River Avenue-16th Street intersection Monday, March 15, 2021, to deal with a traffic crash that sent a Holland woman to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Holland Police Capt. Bob Buursma told WHTC the crash happened at about 4:10 a.m. when a 51-year-old Holland woman, driving a 1999 Mercury Sable east on 16th Street did not stop for the blinking red traffic light. Her car crashed into a 2010 Chevy Equinox that had been southbound on River Avenue crossed into the intersection under a flashing yellow traffic light. The force of the crash rolled the Chevy, according to Buursma.
The Chevy’s driver had very minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene, according to Buursma.
The Mercury’s driver was treated at Holland Hospital and released. She was also ticketed for disregarding the traffic control device, according to Buursma.
Ottawa County Central Dispatch and Michigan State Police, as well as federal traffic-safety officials are reminding people the effects of the time change include sleep deprivation and other forms of inattention. They’re asking everyone on the road to take extra precautions and for drivers to especially watch out for those traveling on motorcycles, bicycles and on foot.
