ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Apparently having capacity of 50 percent and 100 persons for the moment isn’t enough for some Allegan County restaurateurs.
On Saturday, March 13, county Republicans will be staging a two-hour rally at six establishments across the county to show support for fully reopening eateries and taverns that have been either fully closed or partially reopened for a year due to COVID 19 health concerns. The rallies will be at Crust 54 in Holland, the Trestle Stop in Hamilton, Coral Gables in Saugatuck, Five Lake Brewery in Dorr, the Barbed Wire Cafe in Plainwell, and the Country Corner Cafe in Glenn.
According to Nate Sherman of the Allegan County Republican Party, “While the state government has waged a war on restaurants over the past year, most people understand that these locally-owned restaurants are pillars of our community, and they and other small businesses are part of the bedrock that is our free-market American system. Attendees will be encouraged to write the state government urging relaxation of the restaurant orders soon.”
Added Allegan County Board Chairman Jim Storey of Holland, “Perhaps the hardest hit industry during the COVID contagion has been the restaurant and hospitality industry. Literally thousands of workers had their jobs disappear when their restaurant-employer closed, many for good. As vaccine inoculation numbers increase and infection rates fall and stabilize, the need for the harsh orders against these pillars of local economies are questioned. ”
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services order on current gathering and capacity limits is slated to remain in place through April 19th.
