WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – There is extra security in place at the US Capitol for Thursday due to concerns linked to groups associated with the January 6th outbreak.
Authorities claim that they’ve seen intelligence signaling an unnamed militia group plotting to breach the Capital building in an effort to install former President Trump back to power over election fraud claims. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called off today’s scheduled session in the Lower Chamber as a result, but minority Republicans such as Zeeland’s Bill Huizenga claim that they’re being left in the dark.
“We’ve requested those intelligence briefings, those security briefings, and have been rebuffed on that,” the six-term Congressman said during his weekly appearance on “WHTC Morning News.” “I was talking with someone with Capitol Hill Police who had been briefed, and they described it as conspiracy theories about conspiracy theories.”
The US Senate is taking precautions, but its members were still planning on conducting business, focusing on the American Rescue Plan stimulus proposal sent by the House for consideration last weekend.
