Melva was born on October 31, 1941, in Holland, MI to Gilbert and Alice (Crowle) Rowan.
She graduated from Holland High School in 1959. After graduation, she went to work at Baker Furniture in Holland, then worked at Miles Laboratories (Zeeland Chemical) in Zeeland, and retired from Lakewood Manufacturing. Roger and Melva loved to travel and spent 12 wonderful years in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and taking many side trips. She loved crafts and crocheted many afghans for the needy, family, and friends. Melva spent many hours in her flower gardens where she had many conversations with her Father in Heaven. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served in Awanas for several years and loved working with the children.
She is survived by her husband Roger of 59 years; daughter, Kari and Lee Reister; grandson, Eric Reister; sisters, Kathryn Rowan and Lynne Rowan; in-laws, Michael and Virginia Bronkhorst, Sandra and Calvin Reimink, and Eugene Smith; nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Funeral services will be 11 am, Thursday (March 4), at Calvary Baptist Church, 517 West 32nd Street, with Pastors Ben Hernandez and Brian Allen officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family thanks Hospice of Holland and Wings of Home-Allegan for the care provided to Melva.
