HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Zeeland City Council is set to meet for a virtual study session followed by a business meeting.
The virtual study session is set for 5:30 p.m. today, March 1, 2021, with the business meeting following at 7 p.m.

On the agenda:
- Downtown maintenance contract bid awards, for D.J.’s Landscaping for 2021-2022 in the amount of $45,729.00 and $2,852 for the maintenance of areas around the city entrance signs and $24,750 to Don’s Flowers for annuals and tulips for the 2021-2022 season.
- Bid awards:
- for a salt truck: $73,675 for a 2021 Freightliner from Freightliner of Grand Rapids and $70,940 for installing a hydraulics salt box and underbody scraper for from Truck & Trailer Specialties of Dutton, with an anticipated $12,000 to $20,000 cost mitigation by selling a 2004 salt truck.
- for a 2021 backhoe for $17,920 from Greenmark Equipment of Holland ($37,420 less $19,500 for the trade-in)
- a 2021 J.D. X-754 w/mower deck, cab, snow blower for $17,420.85 from Greenmark Equipment of Holland ($21,340.85 less $3,920 for the trade-in)
- the Cherry/Library alley work, with a budget of $1,112,490.30 to encompass a bid award to Nagel Construction for $837, 785.30, with the remainder allocated for water and sewer work by Zeeland BPW. The meeting will also include discussion of snowmelt policies for assessment of installation and
operations/maintenance. - review of the IT office renovation bid recommendation.
- Adopting the city’s planning commission to re-zone 541 E. Washington Ave. from Central Business District (C-2) to Highway Commercial District (C-3). The site is planning as a youth center by Upward Bound Ministries.
- Temporary Amendments to right-of-way license agreement and alcohol on public property policy, consistent with Michigan Liquor Control Commission rules and the adjustments made to support area businesses during the pandemic restrictions.
- City Council members are expected to approve a fire code for the city and renew the city’s Issue Media Group membership, as well as consider board appointments and hear public comments.
