Alan Earl VanOpstall, age 68, beloved husband and father, passed away after a brief battle with cancer.
Al worked as the city assessor and the director of economic development for the city of Wyoming before opening Vansco Appraisal Co. as a residential appraiser, which he ran for approximately 30 years. Al spent his life seeking to do what was right and honest in the eyes of God for his family and for others that he could help.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Earl and Arlene VanOpstall; nephew, Kyle VanOpstall; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Walt and Monica Cooke.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Mary Jo (Cooke); children and grandchildren, Michael VanOpstall and Catherine Norman (Anthony, Ia, Claire, Madeleine), and David and Tracy VanOpstall. He is also survived by his sister and brothers, Julie (Bruce) Wormmeester, Tom (Jan) VanOpstall, Jim (Diane) VanOpstall, Earl (Pat) VanOpstall; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mel (Marsha) Cooke, Kevin (Christy) Cooke, Curt (Sue) Cooke, and Cheryl (Dave) Beute; and many nieces and nephews.
Al and Mary enjoyed winter trips to Florida and numerous drives to the beaches in Saugatuck and Holland with a picnic basket and portable grill in hand.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Al’s name may be directed to Hospice of Holland, Love Sews, or Living Threads.
Funeral services will be 12 noon on Friday, February 5, 2021 at Christ Memorial Church, 595 Graafschap Rd. Holland with Rev. Dann Stouten, Rev. Dave VanOpstall, and Fr. Michael VanOpstall. Burial will be in Rosedale Memorial Park. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service. Masks are required. The family is being served by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home.
