Louis Hallacy II

Louis Hallacy II, former Mayor of Holland and long-time President of the Holland Area Chamber of Commerce, passed away on January 7, 2021. He had recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Lou was born in Grand Rapids, MI moving to Holland, MI in 1956 with his wife Madeline to raise their family. He soon became active in the Holland community, serving five years as a City Councilman and three terms as Mayor of Holland (1973-1979). He also served as President of both the Holland Area Chamber of Commerce and the Holland Economic Development Corporation. Throughout his adult life, he was passionate about growing the city of Holland and creating opportunities for long-term economic development and new business growth. His other passions were his family, golf, and watching Hope College and University of Michigan sports. He was recently recognized as a fifty-year member of Tulip Time. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Madeline. He is survived by his children: Don (Karen and children Chris, Andrew (Ali), Nikki and great-granddaughter Zoey); Lou (Lynn and children Matt (Quinn), Jeff (Marisol) and Louis III (Chip) (wife Lauren) and great-grandchildren Jake, Gabby, Amaya, Matthew, Ezra & Mikey); Mary Speet (children Danielle, Katie, Matt and great-grandson Aiden); John (Ellen and children Frederick, Grant and Madeline); Peggy Gorno (Steve and son Michael); and son Joe (partner Rachel). Also surviving is Lou’s loving friend and companion Anita Brooks. The family is deeply thankful for the love and support of Hospice of Holland and Rachel Wray Miller. Due to COVID restrictions, a private funeral Mass will be held, 10 am Thursday, January 21, 2021, at St. Peter Catholic Church for immediate family only followed by a Christian burial with military honors. In consideration of his lifelong commitment to serving the Holland community and his positive impact on countless lives and organizations throughout West Michigan, we will be streaming the service live to allow remote participation for all who care to join us. We are also hoping to do a celebration of life when it is safe to gather again. Arrangements are by the Dykstra Funeral Home-Mulder Chapel.
