HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Scarlett Johansson, Kathy Ireland, Nicole Kidman, Michael Keaton, Charlize Theron, Hugh Jackman, Donald and Melania Trump are among past cover models for JetSet Magazine, which caters to the lifestyles of the rich and famous.
Holland resident Andrea Jenkins wants to join those celebrities with her own JetSet Magazine cover. She’s competing for the second time in the Miss JetSet cover model search. The prizes include $50,000 and a free trip, via jet of course, to a photo shoot at the destination of the winner’s choice. (Listen to her complete WHTC interview.)
Last time, the 34-year-old mother of five finished fifth among the top 10 models.
She wants to win the contest to add to her accomplishments, and hopes the attention will boost her other career efforts.
In addition to being a wife and mom, Jenkins models — her photos have appeared in online catalogs — and is an award-winning writer. She learned screenwriting through a Los Angeles-based production house. Her first script won a London City Film Award for best sci-fi screenplay. She attended modeling school and took graphic design classes at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, but never took any writing classes, she said.
“I actually called the venue and asked for the director. I got on the phone and said, ‘I’m Andrea Jenkins — did I just win?’ and they said, ‘Yes, you did,” she said, laughing at the memory. “I was a blubbering mess.”
She wants to continue writing, noting that models, eventually, age out of their careers.
“I do more fashion with brands,” she said. “I did recently do a boudoir shoot — I try to keep it PG.”
She said she teamed up with photographer Danielle Huff of Sweetpeaz Photography, for the Miss JetSet contest photos.
“Whatever goes out on the internet, I don’t want my children to grow up and and go, ‘eeuuww,'” she said.
“I’m ready to go all the way and do the best I can and, hopefully, represent Holland, Michigan,” she said. Whether or not she wins the Miss JetSet title, she’d like to coach younger women and develop her writing career.
Winners are decided by the public.
