HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — With snow on the ground late last week, Pigeon Creek Park officials announced Saturday, Dec. 26, 2020, Pigeon Creek Lodge had opened for cross-country ski and snowshoe rentals.
Pigeon Creek Park is on Stanton Street, between US 31 and 120th Avenue.
The park’s winter season starts in October and runs through Feb. 28, with hours of operation from 7 am. to 8 p.m. This season shift means the park is closed to walkers: those with dogs; and bikes. Alternatives include nearby Hemlock Crossing for walkers and Riley Trails and Grand River Park are options for mountain biking and walking, according to the county’s parks webpage
As of Sunday evening, park officials reported cross-country ski trails had been rolled, but didn’t have enough snow for grooming. Daily trail updates are online at miottawa.org/trails.
The county is hosting ski lessons at Pigeon Creek Park. Registration is required: miottawa.org/Parks/programs.htm
As with almost everything in 2020, COVID-19 has caused some new park rules:
- Masks/face coverings are required everywhere except out on ski/snowshoe trails, including the sledding hill
- People renting equipment should be prepared to wait outdoors
- Restrooms in the lodge will be open
- Visitors should maintain six feet social distance from others
- Visitors are expected to wash hands frequently before, during, and after visiting the park.
