HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two Holland-area motorists were injured in a two-vehicle crash east of the Tulip City on Tuesday evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Christopher Dill, a 71-year-old woman, driving a SUV east on Chicago Drive, attempted to make a left hand turn onto 120th Avenue shortly before 6 PM. “As she entered the intersections, she was struck by a westbound van, driven by a 39-year-old man,” Dill said in a department statement. “Based on driver and witness accounts, the van had the right of way at the time of the crash.”
The woman was taken to Holland Hospital for treatment of minor injuries; the man had bumps and bruises that didn’t require hospitalization.
The crash caused a power failure at the intersection, which disabled the traffic signal. Since the incident occurred on a state trunk line (Business 196), M-DOT crews had to be dispatched to repair the damage, which was expected to be completed during the overnight hours.
