HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – It may be a week since Small Business Saturday was observed nationwide, but the message of the annual “shopping local” initiative that comes on the Saturday after Thanksgiving continues to reverberate.
It’s been evident to Executive Director of the Holland Area Visitors Bureau Linda Hart, just looking at all the Christmas shoppers converging on downtown Holland.
“We have gotten an enormous amount of media attention because of the whole shop local and support local restaurants initiative, which is really great,” she said on “WHTC Morning News” during her weekly appearance on Thursday. “I was downtown (last) Saturday, and downtown was really busy, and that’s what we really, really want to see.”
Besides the permanent retailers, shoppers are also heading to the 8th Street Marketplace for the annual Kerstmarkt of local artisans and specialty shops that runs this and next Friday (3 PM to 8 PM) and Saturday (9 AM to 5 PM)
