ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – When a COVID 19 vaccine becomes available in Allegan County, authorities there are going to need some help in distributing the doses.
The county’s Emergency Management Department announced on Friday a request for clinical and non-clinical volunteers to assist with vaccination clinics throughout the county once a vaccine has received Emergency Use Authorization. Over the next several months, clinical volunteers will help administer the shots, while non-clinical help will deal with the necessary logistics involving inventory, transportation and other matters.
According to Emergency Management Director Scott Corbin, setting up this “human capital” is just one aspect of preparation that the county’s Coronavirus Vaccination Task Force has been working on for more than a month, ever since the first reports of successful vaccine trials by various pharmaceutical entities surfaced. “We have a lot of pre-planned facilities around the county already for this type of event,” he said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” during a Thursday appearance. “Now we’re making sure we’re cleaning up the details about how we are going to use those facilities, making sure in all of our agreements with the owner/operators of those facilities are aware about how we’re going to come in and operate.”
In saying that nearly 66,000 Allegan County residents would be eligible for inoculations under the first two phases of the Centers for Disease Control guidelines for COVID 19 vaccine priority, Corbin added that a third element that the task force is addressing is, “some resources, general resources we need to make those clinics operational.”
Background checks will be conducted on all volunteer applicants, and those interested can fill out a form available through this link.
The interview with Corbin and Allegan County Sheriff Frank Baker on the county’s Coronavirus Vaccination Task Force is available here; a portion of that will air around 10:45 AM on Sunday during the weekly public affairs program “Perspectives” on 99 7/1450 WHTC.
I would love to be a volunteer
