HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Some may consider it a Christmas gift from the City of Holland to its residents.
During last night’s Holland City Council virtual meeting, a nearly completed 23-acre enclosed Dog Park as part of the Van Raalte Farm complex was unveiled. City Manager Keith Van Beek and other staffers and council members had wanted to surprise First Ward Councilman Mike Trethewey by naming one of the trails after him, but the Mayor Pro Tem was already aware of this.
“Mike has been a pusher of this idea for a long, long time,” Van Beek said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” on Thursday during his monthly appearance. “Council had said, ‘Hey, let’s do something to specifically recognize Mike there,’ so you will see a street sign in brown that designates one of the dog trails there as ‘Trethewey Trail.”
Van Beek added that restrooms and a dog washing station is still incomplete at the site, with the hope that those loose ends can be tied up this spring.
